# Surplus Intelligence hits record 312.6 billion daily tokens as rival questions paid demand

*Surplus Intelligence's daily token volume rose about 2.3 times to a record on October 18, 2026. Its own dashboard publishes savings and discounts, not a spend total.*

Surplus Intelligence, an onchain AI inference market on Base, processed a record 312.6 billion tokens in a single day on October 18, 2026, up from 133.6 billion on September 23, 2026, [Bankless reported on October 20, 2026](https://www.bankless.com/read/news/onchain-inference-markets-post-record-token-usage). That is about 2.3 times growth in under a month.

The same report cited a post by 0xJeff saying Dolphin, an inference service, reached 32.2 billion daily tokens a week after its API went live.

The open question is how much of that volume is paid demand. Amos Meiri, co-founder of the inference marketplace AntSeed, a competitor, wrote, "Token count say almost nothing!" Meiri also wrote, "at minimum, we should ask for transparent USD spend."

Surplus's analytics page charts daily savings and defines a realized discount as one minus buyer cost in USDC divided by direct cost, with token counts including cached input.

Bankless reported that AntSeed has settled about $310,000 on Base since launch, keeping roughly $12,000 in fees. Meiri held up Venice as a comparison, citing 500 billion tokens daily and $150 million in annual recurring revenue.

Bankless described inference as one of the most dominant intersections of AI and crypto, and said paying from a wallet, rather than an account tied to an email, card or identity check, is one of the advantages crypto offers.

AntSeed's website says it raised $2.4 million in a round led by Spark Capital.
